Poem: Keep Running Forward

Sand pushing down and out with each step

Running

Tripping, Falling

Spit out sand and grit and stumble back upright

Colored sky but no sun yet

Roaring waves eating away at the rock to my side

Keep running, just keep running

A stitch in my side, gasping for air

Sweat starts to trickle down my face

Have to keep running, no pause, no backward glance

Keep stumbling forward and waiting for the sun to rise above the waters,

Keep moving, every step taking me away from what I want.

Trip and catch the palm of my hand on a rock

Watch for the sun and ocean birds and a new town far out in the distance.

Just keep watching the new come in and engulf me. Just keep waiting to forget the hopes that dare to build.
